Is it real or a myth?
If you ask the masters about their “natural talent”, most will remind you of the hard work it took to get them their status.
Still, it’s undeniable when they are performing; they are a NATURAL.
Some wouldn’t be able to answer the question because they are extraordinarily natural.
What makes each individual unique then?
This is a question that goes beyond our capabilities of understanding, but we can still try to answer it.
The best answer I can think of in the context of performance is that we are products of our habits. When we experience someone’s natural talent, they appear stable. They are in control. They have no visible anxiety. Their mistakes somehow turn out better than what they do on purpose.
Maybe what you see when you experience the uniqueness of a person are only the symptoms of their real natural talent. But what IS IT?
From my personal experience,
the talent is PATIENCE.
Patience on an infinitely GRANULAR level.
Fortunately, we can recognize this as a skill you can develop until it’s “natural.”
Patience allows you to develop your technique and your Inner Voice with stability and authority. Impatience will cause you to rush, and your internal stability will suffer. Your mechanics will suffer. Your coordination will suffer. Your talent for consistency will suffer. Your talent for positive habits will suffer.
Is natural talent real? Yes. It’s just not exactly what you think it is. YOU can become a natural one breath at a time.
