Technique allows you to achieve a goal from the sense feeling vs the sense of thinking.
What is technique? Simply put, it is how you do something.
The mix engineer feels that a frequency adjustment is needed. Without having to pull the ol’ technical brain into the situation(which disrupts flow), the engineer’s technical ability is connected to the feeling.
The only way to achieve this is to experience the practice wholeheartedly, and to develop an intense ability to focus the mind.
Breathe and listen.
The guitar player feels a groove and finds the spot for a melody.
No time to think. Feel.
Spend at least 2 min with a timer on proper isolated and combined techniques daily for a few weeks. You will begin to feel like a master. Once the technique is confident, it will appear primal and graceful.
Creativity
The most important step of the creative process is to just “show up” consistently. Thats the technique. When one is consistent and effortlessly moving, it’s as if artistic ideas present themselves. The master is a conduit for something special that was waiting to be transferred from empty space to a physical, performed, energetic, or recorded format.
Without technique, the artistic idea or inspiration will slip out of the “creator’s” hands before they ever knew what it was.
Mastering basic techniques creates a FLOW and a smoother path to following through with creative goals or VISION. Without the flow, it is easy to fall short. Active listening is a technique you have to develop.
Listening and reacting in real time serves as a foundation for:
-Imagination and exploration
-rhythmic recognition
-melodic & harmonic recognition
-memory
